开头得眼神设计。回忆得拍摄效果。私人化得情感但看不明白的赌博
手，算牌的手，喝酒的手，写作的手，在背上上纹人生信条的手，高举呐喊USA的手，鞭打囚犯的手，杀人的手，因复仇而断掉的手，爱的手。
质感出挑，单场戏很棒，整体却力有未逮，端着而无法下沉。倒是奥斯卡·伊萨克，头发一梳，从头有型到尾。

选了打德州扑克的作为切入点着实让人迷茫。关塔那摩ptsd，主线隐藏蛮深，最后复仇的结局让人懵逼。不过看完好一会儿，才感到，后劲很大。
完全疲软的陈词滥调，早已经屡见不鲜的架构和文本更是在无穷无尽空洞的对白中，变成了一潭不值得人多瞄几眼的清水。两次反高潮让结尾没有那么难看，但是这种困兽之斗与救赎之搏也没做出任何值得品味的地方。像是看着出租车司机长大的电影系学生的习作，可惜居然是施拉德自己。圣母 最后的决斗 算牌人，几个月里看的三位老导演的新作里处处透露着与时代的脱节甚至是不思进取。
四星半。與前一部《First Reformed》相似，關於一個男人的自我救贖。表現PTSD回憶的魚眼鏡頭很好；Oscar Isaac演技仍然細膩，演活這種孤獨、堅毅卻又脆弱的角色。
两个以后必得影帝桂冠的男人演了一部什么电影？
个人层面对施虐行为的救赎，国家层面对关塔那摩的反思，还赌上了一个年轻人的前途（输了）。女主的戏份有点莫名其妙。有点真诚的悔罪书，艺术性不太够的电影。
创伤，以及将理解和爱作为救赎。
导演和音乐很不错，故事到后面有点崩，让我有些昏昏欲睡。

故作深沉，什么事情都没有讲好，ptsd，赌博，感情，犯罪，全都没有说清楚。
【4】延续了《第一归正会》的观感和主题：过往伤痕、毁灭与自我救赎。片面地说风格像更迷幻的布列松。一些堪称“奇观”的调度太迷人了。
