The Freebie centers on Darren (Shepard) and Annie (Aselton), a young married couple with an enviable relationship built on love trust and communication. When a dinner party conversation leads to an honest discussion about the state of their love life, and when a sexy bikini photo shoot leads to crossword puzzles instead of sex, they begin to flirt with a way to spice things up. 疫情之下的老人护理院，上演了21世纪的“飞越疯人院”。这里住满了被政府和医疗系统抛弃的耄耋老人，也有因早发阿尔茨海默而丧失工作能力的中年人，在死神的镰刀下一个一个被收割。弃老成为整个社会心照不宣的不可承受之罪，也成为一些人痛彻心扉、至今还在淌血的伤痕。这再一次提醒了我们，在国境线之外，新冠对人们究竟意味着什么。

从头至尾的长焦镜头，带来了极浅的景深、广屏的虚焦，也是极少数能用镜头语言刻画出压抑感的电影手法。

本片对个体在公共突发事件中的努力和无力感刻画的十分真实，一个普通人尽全力去挽救另一个普通人的生命，天亮以后就是下班回家而已，没有高光时刻没有英雄光环，这才是存在于我们身边的日常。
疫情侵袭的段落非常有感染力，不管是国内还是国外，一定有人曾面临过这种无助的境遇。但以我国政治宣传片一向伟光正的风格来看，一般会有医生及时赶到救肯尼于弥留之际。外国疫情处置确实不如我们，但电影拍的不知高到哪里去
所有的宏大叙事与歌功颂德都比不上普通小人物的故事来得更有力。
一个小护理院面对初期新冠肆虐的无力，难得一部真实展现疫情一线的作品，类似于《索尔之子》近景别虚背景的拍法让中段的long nignt充满窒息感，导演和演员在表现这一段面对新冠病人时，慌乱又细心、无助又努力的矛盾拿捏相当准确。最后一幕跳脱出来没能延续前三分之二的出色，有些可惜。
这只是电影，所以结局可以拍得这样荒唐，在这样的境遇下，就是想“逃”而已——从人的本心出发表述人最真实的想法；并没有记录轰轰烈烈的伟大，只是想告诉幸存者们逝者的痛苦，不要忘记悲伤和狼狈的政府。
