The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will.     华纳的新片头好丑啊,以前不是只有动画片才用吗…小威在这部作品里被完全边缘化了。一个充满矛盾的虎父,规划大师,扫兴专业户,把自私和控制欲包装成爱心和善意,对他的评价其实完全取决于两个女儿的成功与否,赢者通吃,胜者为王。结尾的反高潮设计不错。拍黑人女性的成长史大概是目前好莱坞最保险的题材了。

    不得不承认我中间一度觉得Jesse小朋友烦得要死,让人窒息,甚至可以说要恐婚恐育了,但随着剧情的发展,才发现是Jonny和Jesse都没有找到合适的表达自己情绪的方式,没能好好表达自己的想法,而作为大人的Jonny也没有打开自己的心结。

    中途观感还不错,但越到后面觉得这个爹越讨人厌,明明非常自以为是还教小孩to be humble??女儿是天才虽然靠爹培养但拍个电影记录这个人物完全就不讨喜。有些加入的表现黑人stuggle的情节略感勉强,比如拒绝俱乐部老板那里(明明就take 了free coach很久了啊)。时长短一些删掉一些多余情节还会算是比较好看的体育传记片。

    因为我自己看网球,所以本片比其他传记片有更多打动我的地方。Richard Williams本就是争议人物,在艺术化的加工下,Will Smith成功演出一个在康普顿埋头培养两个女儿成为世界第一网球选手的父亲、一个自负又独断的领导者、一个把精神健康文化水平为人处世看得比胜利金钱重要的男人,希望奥斯卡圆梦。无论如何,威廉姆斯姐妹是成功的,为世界上的女性尤其黑人女性带去的重大意义溢于言表,但她们的成功之路绝非随便可以复制。三星半

    属于父亲的传记,体育的部分拍得有些无趣,整体也缺乏一种激情感,像这种场外人的电影,还是喜欢《点球成金》,人物推进得过于流畅,更喜欢母亲这个角色的塑造以及最后的失败者教育。至此今年奥提作品看完了,最喜欢车和披萨。

    华金像只毛绒绒的大熊,挺舒服的。虽然不有趣。到结尾告别时感到忧伤,记忆是不公平的,也许Johnny会记得,但9岁的孩子会长大到不再在乎有人曾是best friend。或者说长大到这种柔软亲密显得尴尬,只好当作遗忘。

    三星半吧,很政治正確的一部電影,難怪能獲那麼多獎項提名。唯一的糾結是,這部影片的片名讓我以為是一部講某個封建時代的歷史故事,結果竟然是傳記片;而且導演編劇應該也是努力想凸顯兩姐妹的努力,結果觀眾看到的都是種族、階級對立衝突下的“父權”在努力試圖尋找到自己的位置,身為女性,總覺得 有點像在開倒車。
