The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 震撼，太有想象力了，所有的恶心聚集在一起，竟然就构建起了人类社会和历史的真实写照，生命的价值也许就是一摊泥浆。值得有空的时候再刷的定格动画作品。
完全是好奇心催使我看完的，感觉是一个循环，最终那个医生还会派更多的士兵去
上一次看木偶剧还是《阿凡提》……融合了末世、血腥、哲学的怪诞cult片，匠心独具。
没看懂，但还挺好看的～怪异黑暗血腥中透着诡异的可爱。
片子恶心的简直太一骑绝尘了，深度怀疑该片是在导演high翻的状态下构思出来的，推荐推荐！
应该晚上睡觉前窝在被子里带耳机看，然而是白天外放看得，蛮先锋蛮cult的，类似某种噩梦。
两个男主之间 太有感觉的，那一根一起抽的烟，闹翻后几年不见依旧觉得你会选择帮助我。电影该有的紧张和氛围我觉得都很到位，故事很流畅很舒服
人类的想象力超越无极限。
全程无对白 剧情方面见仁见智 但这种类似定格动画的方式还是挺有感觉的

光怪陆离，荒诞，战争，毁灭，开端，一切即是结束，也亦是开始。
83分钟，不断冲击你的生理下限。看完后血脉膨胀，震撼直冲脑门，精神恍惚，四肢麻木。
这样一部电影，定位挺尴尬的其实。大的历史框架是不能动的，否则就变成架空历史了；虚构的人物只能在既定的框架里作有限的游走，创作空间相当狭窄，而观众对于最后的结局早就了然于胸；对历史人物的描写也处于暧昧地带，介于写实和虚构之间。那这样一来，作者对历史人物（比如张伯伦）的重新评价，其说服力就会大打折扣了。
【2022.07.27】通宵没睡看的，表示完全没看懂，感觉纯粹展示的是恶心脏乱的东西，挺重口的，但没啥好看的。
业余创作是挑战一个人恒心韧性的事情，完成mad god这样的动画要30年的长度、一辈子都不一定够、但业余创作最大的意义就是可以无视商业和观众的存在，为自己而做、纯粹又真炽、稀缺又疯狂、就有可能成为传奇
柴油朋克+废土朋克 30多年哼哧哼哧搞了这么多模型用了这么多特效，只拍出一个过时的故事。放在1990年，也很老套。（现在7.4分 估计最后在6.5左右 剧情太松散还是默片 二倍速都嫌慢）
